Individual & Group Psychotherapy
Relationally focused psychotherapy, grounded in ethics and professionalism, Brian has over 10 years of experience helping adults work through symptoms of anxiety, depression, and nervous system distress.
Going Deeper Towards the Roots of Distress
I tend to be sought out by those who have had negative experiences in childhood whether defined as trauma, neglect, or general emotional inattention or wounding. These experiences can lead to current symptoms of depression, anxiety, and overall distress. I am often recommended to work with adults who are new to therapy or have had a difficult time connecting with therapists in the past. My patients often remark how our sessions can feel like a natural conversation, putting themselves at ease when trying therapy for the first time.
Specializations
As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado, Brian graduated from a mindfulness-based clinical psychology program, and has additional training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), and Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT). He is also a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist (SPT) and a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP) through the American Group Psychotherapy Association.
Adverse Childhood Experiences
My training in relationally-focused therapies help me attune to the effects of early attachment experiences and wounding and how those experiences may continue to effect ones ability to thrive in adulthood. This often looks like feeling nervous about good things happening because one wonders when the other foot is going to drop or always saying "yes" when the answer is "no."
Difficulty in Relationships
I work from an integrated approach beginning with my graduate training in Buddhist psychology and meditation, augmented by somatic training and ongoing study in contemporary relational psychodynamic theory. This background offers patients the opportunity to safely explore past and current relationships and the impact of early developmental experiences.
Grief & Trauma
My early career experience working in the field of grief and bereavement set the clinical foundation for compassionate healing in the face of adversity.
Trained in EMDR through the Maiberger Institute in Boulder, CO, I take a somatic approach to healing experiences of trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, and relational wounding.
Online Group Therapy
Joining a group offers the opportunity to move the progress of your individual work into a working relationship with other adults which can deeper ones understanding and awareness of oneself.
Group therapy is an antidote to experiences of feeling pushed out and alone even with family and friends – members might identify having a hard time jumping in and saying what they want or need.
There might be experiences of self criticism and isolation that have prevented them from living the life they want. You might struggle when finding yourself saying "yes" when you really want to say "no."
Group can be an antidote to the thoughts or feelings that "no one else understands."
